TAMPA — An inmate at the Falkenburg Road Jail has died after spending days in the hospital, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Jason Charles Zoet, 58, fell ill and was taken to Tampa General Hospital on July 8. He was pronounced dead on Monday.

The cause of death is now under investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Zoet has a pre-existing medical condition, the Sheriff’s Office said, but it did not disclose that condition.

He was arrested May 1 on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence resulting in property damage or personal injury and driving with a license canceled and suspended or revoked. He was being held without bail because a judge revoked it on 2019 charges of DUI and refusal to submit to testing.

No other information about his death was released by the agency.
