Driver in Keystone hit-and-run cooperating with Hillsborough deputies

A motorcyclist was fatally injured in Friday night's crash off Gunn Highway.

KEYSTONE — The pick-up truck driver who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that fatally injured a motorcyclist Friday night has come forward and is talking to investigators, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place at about 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of Gunn Highway and Tarpon Springs Road. The truck was towing a boat and headed north on Gunn Highway when it turned left onto left turn onto Tarpon Springs Road. A motorcyclist headed south on Gunn Highway could not avoid a crash, deputies said, and struck the right back side of the boat trailer.

The truck kept going, headed west on Tarpon Springs Road. The motorcyclist later died of his injuries at St. Joseph’s Hospital. No other information about the motorcyclist, including his name, was released.

Investigators had been searching for the driver and truck, and said they did not know if the driver intentionally drove away or was unaware of the crash.
