Deputies investigating fatal shooting at Lutz house party

The victim wasn't found at the scene, but deputies later learned he had arrived at a hospital.

LUTZ — Deputies are investigating after a man was fatally shot at a house party early Wednesday.

Deputies were called about 3 a.m. after shots were fired at a home at an address in the 14800 block of N 30th St., the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Deputies did not find a victim at the scene.

Then, about 20 minutes later, deputies were notified that a man had arrived at AdventHealth Tampa with a gunshot wound. The man was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released the man’s name. The office typically withholds the names of crime victims, citing its interpretation of a state constitutional amendment called Marsy’s Law. The law was designed to protect crime victims but is now cited to withhold information that was previously available under Florida’s public records law.

The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information about the shooting to call (813) 247-8200 or submit a tip through Crime Stoppers by calling 1 (800) 873-8477.
