RIVERVIEW — A 60-year-old woman was killed Monday night when two cars hit her as she tried to cross U.S. 301, troopers said.

The Brandon woman was trying to cross the highway near Rivercrest Drive about 11:15 p.m. when she walked into the path of two southbound sedans, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Both cars struck her.

The pedestrian died at the scene. The drivers of the cars that hit her, a 47-year-old Riverview woman and a 38-year-old Tampa man, were not injured.

The Highway Patrol no longer includes in its news releases the names of people involved in crashes. The agency cites Marsy’s Law, an amendment to Florida’s constitution that’s meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under the state’s public records law.

Note: This post has been updated with new information from the Highway Patrol noting that two cars struck the woman.
