Tampa man, 22, faces manslaughter charge in shooting death

Carl Feltus Jr. got into an argument with another man, then fatally shot him, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

TAMPA — A 22-year-old man faces charges after an argument turned into a fatal shooting, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Carl Feltus Jr. was arrested Wednesday on charges of manslaughter, being a felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of tampering with evidence.

The shooting took place on Dec. 2 at the Palms at Ashley Oaks apartment complex at 1701 E 131st Ave. Deputies said Feltus got into a “verbal altercation” with another man there, then shot him.

The man was taken to AdventHealth Tampa hospital, where he died of his injuries. The Sheriff’s Office did not release his name.

Deputies arrested Feltus at his home on Wednesday, but did not say what evidence led to his arrest.

He was booked into the Hillsborough County jail, where he was being held Thursday without bail. Feltus also faces a charge of violating his probation on a 2020 case of possession of cocaine, according to jail records.
