A man was killed Monday night after he had a flat tire, pulled over and was hit by a pickup truck, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred about 8:10 p.m. Monday at Interstate 75 and U.S. 301.
A 24-year-old Zephyrhills man had stopped a Ford Mustang he was driving along the east shoulder because of the flat tire. As he was looking at the tire, a Ford F-150 traveling south on the I-75 exit ramp to U.S. 301 ran into the shoulder and hit the passenger side of the Mustang and the driver, troopers said in a news release.
The Mustang driver was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
The driver of the pickup, a 27-year-old man from Brandon, was not injured, troopers reported.
The highway patrol did not release the names of any of the people involved due to the department’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to Florida’s constitution that’s meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under the state’s public records laws.
No information about potential charges or other details were released.
