LUTZ — A man and a woman from Lutz died when their car collided with a sport utility vehicle Sunday at Van Dyke Road and Dale Mabry Highway.
The driver of the car, 62, and the woman riding with him, 57, were headed east on Van Dyke when the collision occurred about 1:20 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said. The SUV, driven by a 43-year-old Tampa woman, was headed south on Dale Mabry, also known as State Road 597.
The front of the SUV struck the left side of the car. It was not immediately clear which vehicle had the green light, the Highway Patrol said.
After the vehicles collided, the car was propelled across the concrete median and came to rest in the northbound lanes of Dale Mabry and the SUV came to rest in the southbound lanes. The two victims died at the scene.
All three of the occupants were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
The Highway Patrol did not release their names because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the Florida Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records laws.
