VALRICO — A speeding, out-of-control driver died after their vehicle overturned and struck a bicyclist Saturday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The bicyclist was critically injured.

The crash took place about 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Natures Way Boulevard and Golf Meadow Boulevard, near Bloomingdale Golfers Club.

The driver of a Kia Stinger was speeding south on Natures Way Boulevard and then lost control of the vehicle, deputies say.

The Kia struck a tree, according to the Sheriff’s Office, then hit a bicyclist.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The bicyclist was flown to Tampa General Hospital for emergency medical treatment. The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the driver or the bicyclist.

Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement that speed was a factor in the crash, but did not say how fast the Kia driver was going. He said investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology reports to see if impairment was also a factor.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that could help the investigation is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 813-247-8200.
