PLANT CITY — A 28-year-old Plant City man was killed Thursday when his car crashed into the back of a truck on State Road 60, troopers said.
The man was driving a sedan west at a high rate of speed about 8:30 p.m. when he crashed into the back of a box truck that had stopped at a railroad crossing east of Clarence Gordon Jr. Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The man died from his injuries at the scene of the crash.
The box truck driver, a 51-year-old Mascotte man, was not injured.
The Highway Patrol did not release the names of those involved in the crash because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law. The Highway Patrol withholds names regardless of whether a crime is suspected.
