A 79-year-old Lutz woman was killed Tuesday morning in Hillsborough County after a tree service truck ran a red light and crashed into her car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Sunset Lane. The tree truck, which was driven by a 24-year-old Tampa man, hit the right side of the woman’s car, which then collided with another car at the intersection, troopers said.

The woman died from after being taken to the hospital.

The driver of the truck was not injured. His two passengers, a 47-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, also were not injured. Both are from Tampa, troopers said.

A 68-year-old man from Land O’Lakes who was driving the third vehicle involved had minor injuries, troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol didn’t release the names of the people involved because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
