A motorcyclist died after hitting a rear bumper that fell off the car in front of him Sunday on an Interstate 75 access road near Brandon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Both the sedan, driven by a 52-year-old Riverview woman, and the motorcycle, ridden by a 63-year-old Riverview man, were headed south at 3:25 p.m. on the access road north of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, troopers said. The sedan’s bumper fell off for “unknown reasons,” troopers said. The motorcyclist hit it, then struck a guardrail on the shoulder.
The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, troopers said. The Highway Patrol did not release his name because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, an amendment to the state Constitution.
The driver of the sedan stopped at the scene. Troopers did not say whether she could face charges.
