A 62-year-old man from Wesley Chapel was killed and a 58-year-old woman from Wesley Chapel suffered serious injuries after a four-vehicle crash on U.S. 301 in Hillsborough County on Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The woman was driving a sedan when she turned off Cowley Road to enter the southbound lanes of U.S. 301 around 3:40 p.m., the Highway Patrol said in a news release. The sedan entered into the path of an SUV driven by a 33-year-old man from Ruskin and was struck, troopers said.
The impact caused the SUV to rotate, sending it into the northbound lanes of the highway, according to the release. The SUV hit a pickup truck being driven by a 53-year-old man from Riverview, then struck a van being driven by a 78-year-old man from Riverview, the Highway Patrol said.
The driver of the sedan and her male passenger were taken to an area hospital, where the man later died, troopers said.
None of the people in the other three vehicles sustained serious injuries, according to the Highway Patrol.
The Highway Patrol did not release the names of any of the people involved in the crash because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, an amendment to the state Constitution.
