As the omicron variant spreads across Florida, Hillsborough County is opening another free COVID-19 testing site.
Beginning Monday, free tests will be available at the Hillsborough Community College Brandon campus at 10451 Nancy Watkins Drive.
The testing site will be drive-thru, and no appointments will be needed to get a test, according to a news release from the county.
Testing will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
To find the test site, take the community college entrance off of E Columbus Drive.
The county already operates two other free testing sites at Progress Village Park on Progress Boulevard, and at the West Tampa Community Resource Center at 2103 N Rome Ave. in Tampa. Both sites are walk-up only, and are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
The city of Tampa has two free testing sites at Al Lopez Park, 4810 N Himes Ave., and Al Barnes Park, 2902 N 32nd St. More information on those sites can be found at www.tampa.gov/emergency-management/COVID-19/get-tested.
Between Dec. 31 and Jan. 6, Florida averaged nearly 57,000 COVID-19 infections a day, according to a weekly report from the state Department of Health. That is the highest weekly infection rate during the 22-month pandemic.
