Passenger killed in I-75 crash in Hillsborough

A passenger in a sport utility vehicle was killed Friday morning after the driver lost control of the vehicle on Interstate 75 near Gibsonton Drive, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Troopers said the SUV was traveling south on I-75 about 7:10 a.m. when the driver lost control. There were four passengers in the SUV, one of whom was ejected and killed. The other three passengers had minor injuries. The driver, a 31-year-old man from Plant City, suffered serious injures, troopers said.

The only information released about the person killed was that he is male. The names of the other people involved also were not released. Troopers said the other passengers were three men ages 34, 27 and 19 and that all three are from Dover.

The southbound lanes of I-75 were closed for several hours as troopers investigated the crash.
