A fish farm in the Plant City area caught fire early Tuesday morning, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue reported.
Spokesperson Rob Herrin said some fish were killed in the blaze, but it’s unclear how many.
Fire officials said a 911 call summoned them to the fish farm at 6507 Bob Head Road at 2:09 a.m. Tuesday.
“The caller reported heavy flames and smoke coming from one of the buildings at the fish farm,” a news release from the agency states.
Fire crews arrived at the location and confirmed that a large building had heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof. Firefighters attacked the fire and were able “to keep the blaze in check,” the news release states.
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire. One firefighter was taken to a hospital with a minor injury.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but Herrin said “there are several possibilities, and the cause will likely be undetermined.”
