"This house gives me an opportunity to be more independent than I would be in a house that isn't tailored to my needs," says retired U.S. Marine Sgt. Michael Nicholson, 24, who was presented with the custom-built home in Tampa on Thursday. Nicholson lost both his legs and his left arm to an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol in Afghanistan on July 6, 2011. The home was donated by Building for America's Bravest, a joint program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers and the Gary Sinise Foundation. The home has amenities such as adjustable kitchen countertops and shelving and heating and cooling controlled by an iPad.
