Benefit a softball family affair

HUDSON — When baseball player and umpire Darrell Sizemore was diagnosed with a brain tumor, his friends decided to raise money the best way they knew how:

With a softball tournament.

"Darrell has been a part of softball in Pasco County for a long time," said event organizer Brian Borruso. "The softball community is like a family, so when we found out about his condition we felt we had to do something to help the family. We just want to get everyone out to support him and show the family that we care about an old friend."

The tournament will be held June 30 at Veterans Memorial Park in Hudson. The cost is $200 per team. The proceeds will go to Sizemore, a 43-year-old father of two. Half of his brain tumor has been removed and he is undergoing chemotherapy treatment for the remaining tumor.

The event will include a bat raffle and home run derby. Monday is the deadline to register a team. For information, call Borruso at (727) 858-8836 or Mike Miller at (727) 505-5079.
