Hometown Hernando for Aug. 11

Anniversary celebration: On June 23, a 65th wedding anniversary celebration for Dan and Joyce Chamberlain was held in the Elliot dining hall at Wesleyan Village in Brooksville. Nearly 100 residents and 60 family members attended, including the couple’s eight children and spouses, 16 of their 26 grandchildren and nine of 10 great-grandchildren. Maurice and Elouise Bender, members of the 1952 wedding party, were also in attendance. Guests watched a video of how the Chamberlains met, along with reflections of the couple. Most of the family stayed the following two days for a reunion. The couple met in 1949 at Upland College in California and married June 22, 1952, in a small Brethren in Christ Church in Salem, Ore. Mr. Chamberlain has served as an ordained minister, teacher, college administrator, academic dean and lastly as president of Houghton College in New York. Mrs. Chamberlain taught school for many years, and after completing her master’s degree in education, supervised student teachers and served as first lady for 30 years at Houghton College. The couple retired to Wesleyan Village in 2006, where they participate in the choir and on the church board.
