Looking to cuddle with a bunny or make a guinea pig part of the family? The SPCA Tampa Bay has a deal for you.
For a week starting Wednesday, the shelter is waiving adoption fees for most of its so-called “pocket pets,” including birds, rabbits, guinea pigs and rats. Those adoption fees normally average from $25 to $30. Adoptions will be limited to two animals at a time.
You can see pocket pets up for adoption (and other adoptable animals) at spcatampabay.org or visit the shelter at 9099 130th Ave. N. in Largo. Staff can match families with pets with an eye toward long-term success. A recent visit to the shelter website showed rabbits named Oreo and Munsky, guinea pigs called Butters and Rio, rats named Currly and Moe and a parakeet called Elon.
The shelter is open Wednesday-Friday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday noon to 6 p.m., and is closed Monday and Tuesday.
