Clearwater extends red light camera contract

Published Aug. 21, 2015

CLEARWATER — The red light cameras at two intersections in Clearwater will continue to monitor drivers for another two years.

The Clearwater City Council renewed its contract with Redflex Traffic Systems in a 4-1 vote on Thursday, with Mayor George Cretekos in opposition.

Cretekos said he voted against the renewal because the city has not seen enough of a change in the number of people running red lights since the cameras were installed in July 2012.

The cameras operate at the intersections of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard at Belcher Road and S Fort Harrison Avenue and Chestnut Street.
