DADE CITY
Customers in Dade City who have their water cut off for not paying their bills could see a stiffer reconnection penalty.
Next month, the Dade City Commission will hold a workshop to discuss the possible need for stiffer penalties for customers who default. The issue arose during a budget workshop Tuesday, where commissioners received a first look at priorities that may be part of budget sessions this summer.
During the meeting, city finance director Leslie Porter told the commission that the current $30 fee to reconnect is not nearly covering the cost the city incurs to get people back on the system.
The commission also got a first look at some items that could make it in this year's budget, including a possible 3 percent raise for employees, a splash park and street paving projects.
