MADEIRA BEACH — Citing her husband's failing health, Elaine Poe has resigned her District 3 seat on the city commission effective Friday.

Poe was responsible for an ethics investigation of City Manager Shane Crawford that led to his ouster from a professional organization. She also was a strong opponent of two large hotel projects planned in the city. Resident calls for her resignation peppered recent commission meetings.

The city charter requires a vacated seat to be filled by the commission within 30 days, however, the mayoral post and two commission seats, including Poe's, will be up for election in March. Candidate qualifying begins on Dec. 14 and ends on Jan. 13.
