Pinellas Park city manager receives good government award

PINELLAS PARK — The Pinellas Park/Gateway Chamber of Commerce gave City Manager Michael Gustafson the Loyd Tingler Good Government Award at its annual banquet.

The award is presented to an elected or appointed government official who represents the spirit of cooperation and understanding of the role of government in creating and maintaining a vibrant and productive community by balancing the needs and wants of residents and business owner/operators with a minimum of red tape.

Chamber officials said Gustafson "epitomizes the very essence of good government who is able to condense the bureaucracy familiar to government operations with a common sense approach. ... He has been a loyal supporter of the Pinellas Park/Gateway Chamber of Commerce and of our business community as a whole."

Gustafson, 62, began working for the city in 1990. He held the positions of senior trades inspector, building division director, community development administrator and assistant city manager before being named city manager in 2003.
