TAMPA — The Tampa Bay Defense Alliance on Thursday launched a campaign to promote MacDill Air Force Base's upcoming 75th anniversary, encouraging Tampa Bay residents to share their experiences and stories about the base.
The campaign organizers are directing people to a website, MyMacDill.com, where they can upload stories, photos and videos about the base.
John Schueler, president of the alliance, said the campaign is part of an effort to show support for MacDill that may come in handy should the Pentagon ever again consider closing the base, something that has been threatened several times in the base's history.
Schueler said the campaign will demonstrate the community's commitment to MacDill should closure ever again be discussed.
"I don't think we should take anything for granted," Schueler said.
The Air Force formally marks MacDill's 75th anniversary on April 16, 2016, the anniversary of the base's formal dedication.
