Nassau County police said Wednesday that 18-year-old Tyler Flach, of Lido Beach, has been arrested on murder charges in the death of Khaseen Morris.
The 16-year-old Morris had been stabbed in the chest during a large brawl among teens at a strip mall Monday afternoon. A 17-year-old male also suffered a broken arm in the brawl.
“Kids stood there and didn’t help Khaseen,” Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick of the Nassau County Police Department is quoted as saying in a story by the New York Times. “They videoed his death instead of helping him.”
Police say the fight erupted after a group of teens had gotten out of the nearby high school.
It resulted from a dispute over a girl, and whom she was dating, according to the Times.
According to the story, a group of boys stepped out of a car around 3:30 p.m. and rushed Morris and his friends. As Morris fell to the ground, teenagers watched but not one of them came to his aid.
All told, about 50 teenagers were involved in the fight or watched it happen, the Times reports.
Flach is due in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
