Jesus walked on water, and now so can you ... for $3,000

Daniel Greenberg, admittedly, didn’t know much about Jesus Christ. But he was aware of one thing.

“I knew that he walked on water,” Greenberg, head of commerce for Brooklyn-based product design company MSCHF, told the New York Post.

And, now, so can you.

It just might cost you as much as $3,000.

MSCHF, looking for a way to make fun of “collab culture,” endeavored to create “the holiest of all the collabs,” Greenberg told the Post: a collaboration with Jesus Christ.

The company retrofitted two dozen Nike Air Max 97 sneakers, injecting holy water injected into the bubble soles, to create its “Jesus Shoes.”

The water comes from the Jordan River, according to Greenberg. The river is significant in Judaism and Christianity because it is where John the Baptist baptized Jesus, and Israelites crossed it on their way to the Promised Land.

Greenberg told the Post he has a friend in Israel, and the water was blessed by a priest.

Other adornments include a crucifix attached to the laces, red soles that suggest Vatican tradition and a Matthew 14:25 inscription, referencing the Bible verse that tells the story of Jesus walking on water, on the side. In addition, the shoes smell like frankincense.

“We thought of that Arizona Iced Tea and Adidas collab, where they were selling shoes that (advertised) a beverage company that sells iced tea at bodegas,” Greenberg told the Post. “So we wanted to make a statement about how absurd collab culture has gotten.”

Two dozen of the shoes were created and posted earlier this month to the retail site, Stock X, with a price tag of $1,425. The shoes sold out in minutes and are now going for as much as $3,000.

Nike had nothing to do with the shoes. MSCHF bought them at retail value and created the design on its own, according to the story.
