Rather than give her a ticket, police officer buys car seats for single mom

But he didn’t stop there. Milwaukee Police Officer Kevin Zimmermann also installed the seats in the woman’s car.

When Milwaukee Police Officer Kevin Zimmermann saw the three kids bouncing around in the backseat without restraints, his thoughts immediately turned to his own children.

“I’m a father myself, I have three kids,” Zimmermann told WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee. “I thought of my kids jumping around. What if a car hit them and they flew and got seriously hurt, if not killed?”

Zimmermann, who pulled the car over earlier this month for improper registration, knew he had to intervene.

But he didn’t ticket the driver.

Instead, he bought car seats for her two youngest children and then installed them in her car.

The driver, Andrella “Lashae” Jackson, is a single mother of five. She has bills due and needs coats and boots for her children with winter approaching. She had just bought the car at an auction and had trouble affording that, let alone car seats.

Zimmermann recognized that he was in a position to help.

After responding to an emergency call, he called Jackson and asked for the weights of her children. He bought two seats at a nearby Walmart and then installed them in her car. He also stopped by the police station to pick up stickers and children’s books for the girls, Niyah and Sky.

“I got these for you and your kids so your kids can be safe and you don’t have to worry about at least this part of the situation you’re in,” Zimmermann told her, according to the TV station. “She kept saying thank you, and the kids kept saying thank you.”

Now, Jackson can afford to buy the winter clothing that her children need.

“Now, I’m able to finish getting coats," she told WTMJ-TV. "That saved me 70 something dollars on buying coats and hats and gloves. He’s awesome. I really love him. I really appreciate everything he did for me.”
