MIAMI — Tropical Storm Erika has formed in the central tropical Atlantic.
The National Hurricane Center reported Monday night that Erika had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was centered 955 miles east of the Leeward Islands.

Erika was moving west at 20 mph, and while no current watches or warnings were in effect, forecasters said some watches may be required for a section of the Leeward Islands by early Tuesday.
Tropical storm-force winds extended outward up to 80 miles from Erika's center.
