Hurricane outlook: Remain vigilant despite expected below-average activity, forecasters warn

From the Florida Panhandle to the Caribbean Sea, communities are still recovering from year after year of devastating hurricanes while researchers are already looking to what's next. Early indicators point to a below-average Atlantic hurricane season, according to an annual report from Colorado State University. Researchers, however, warn those in coastal areas should remain prepared following consecutive years of catastrophically damaging hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico and beyond.

BJ's Wholesale Club opens in Clearwater Saturday. Does it compete with Costco and Sam's Club?

The Clearwater location of BJ's Wholesale Club is slated to open Saturday at 26996 U.S. Hwy 19 N. It will be the first BJ's Wholesale in Pinellas County. There already are two locations in Hillsborough. With a Sam's Club, Costco and BJ's located about a 10 minute drive from each other, we created a few cost comparisons.

The Trial of John Jonchuck, Day 14: Another delay

Testimony continues in the trial of John Jonchuck, accused of throwing his daughter Phoebe of the Dick Misener Bridge. It picks up from Thursday's argument over evidence. Assistant State Attorney Doug Ellis is pacing and making the prosecution's case that they should be able to use Kyrsten Malcolm's statement that Jonchuck said in a phone call, hours before he killed his daughter, that "If I can't have her, nobody can."
