Chi Chi Rodriguez Foundation board chair is named Lightning Community Hero

During a playoff game against the Montreal Canadiens, the chairman of the board of the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation, Tom James, was recognized as a Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hero. James received a personalized jersey and a $50,000 donation for giving back to the community. His passion and that of his family for philanthropy have spread across the Tampa Bay area for 40 years. He shared his donation with All Children's Hospital, Metropolitan Ministries, Tampa General Hospital and the Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy.

Local auxiliary member attends national convention

Nancy Trivett of Dunedin, a member of Old Fort Harrison Auxiliary 2473, attended the 102nd National Convention of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pittsburgh in July. The convention marked the beginning of her two-year term on the National Council of Administration, which governs the auxiliary between conventions. More than 2,000 attended, and national President Ann Panteleakos commended them for their hard work honoring veterans and supporting deployed military personnel and their families.

Guardian Angels students in STEM attend summer camp on robots

Students at Guardian Angels Catholic School in Clearwater spent a portion of their summer vacation continuing their experience in STEM by going to Robotics Camp. An extension of the Suncoast First Lego League, the camp uses the EV3 Lego robot kits and Mindstorm programming to give students opportunities to design and program robots. Students also learned the real world application of robotics as applied to the disciplines of STEM.
