Hunter Garcia and his family were driving on Van Dyke Road before the collision, according to Pasco County Fire Rescue. The crash occurred about 2 p.m. when a driver on Brown Road ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle headed east on Van Dyke Road, according the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

It was unclear Saturday which vehicle Garcia and his family were in. Pasco officials said Garcia and his wife, who they did not name, suffered serious injuries and were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. Their daughter’s injuries were considered life-threatening, the department said.

“Currently, the family remains admitted to the hospital, and firefighters stay by their side,” the department announced in a news release.

Garcia became a firefighter in Pasco less than two years ago.
