LAND O’ LAKES — The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the Tampa man who died at the scene of a single-car crash Friday evening on the Suncoast Parkway.

Troopers said Scott J. Johnson, 50, was traveling north when the crash occurred at about 7:15 p.m. near the Anclote toll plaza, just before the exit for State Road 52. He was alone in the car.

Johnson was wearing his seat belt as he drove a 2000 Acura NSX sports car in the outside Sunpass toll lane, troopers said. Investigators have yet to determine why Johnson lost control of his vehicle near mile marker 23 as he drove through the toll.

Johnson’s Acura drove off the highway and began to spin on the wet grass in the shoulder before it finally collided with a steel post along the roadway, troopers said. No one else was injured in the crash.
