ZEPHYRHILLS — A 53-year-old woman was killed Sunday after walking into the path of a Ford F250 truck on U.S. 301, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian, whose name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, was walking southbound on the northbound paved shoulder of U.S. 301 near Vinson Avenue about 2:26 p.m. Herman L. James of Thonotosassa was driving northbound towards Vinson Avenue when the pedestrian suddenly entered his path, officials said.

James, 73, tried to take “evasive action,” officials said, but collided with the woman. She was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and died from her injuries. James and his passenger, Rosa V. James, 68, were not injured.
