ZEPHYRHILLS — A 29-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon when another driver on U.S. Highway 301 turned into his path, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

David Walter Engberg, of Land O’ Lakes, died at the scene of the crash just before 12:30 p.m., troopers said.

He was riding his Yamaha YZF-R1 Supersport motorcycle northbound on U.S.-301 when he was cut off by a Chevrolet Sonic turning into Daughtry Road, troopers said.

Driver Shirley Ann Brooks, 73, of Zephyrhills, failed to yield to oncoming traffic when she made a left-hand turn directly into Engberg’s path, causing the front of his motorcycle to crash into her vehicle.

Brooks was taken to Advent Health Zephyrhills with minor injuries, troopers said. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, potential charges are pending.
