Man who tried to pass vehicle killed in head-on collision with rock hauler in Pasco County

ZEPHYRHILLS — A 24-year-old Winter Garden man was killed early Tuesday after hitting a tractor-trailer head-on while trying to pass another vehicle in Pasco County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place just after 6 a.m. on U.S. 98, north of County Road 54, near the Pasco-Polk county line.

Chance A. Duvall was driving a 2014 Toyota Camry south on U.S. 98 when he tried to pass a 2018 Chevy Silverado driven by Miguel A. Garcia, 38, of Spring Hill, troopers said.

Approaching in the opposite direction was a 2006 Mack tractor-trailer rock hauler driven by Reginald B. Gainer, 56, of Plant City, headed north on U.S. 98.

The Camry crossed into the northbound lane to pass the pickup truck and ended up crashing head-on into the rock hauler, troopers said.

Duvall was pronounced dead at the scene. Gainer was taken to AdventHealth Zephyrhills hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

No charges are pending in this incident, troopers said.
