HUDSON — A 31-year-old bicyclist was killed Tuesday afternoon after pedaling in front of a vehicle on U.S. 19, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place at about 2:30 p.m. near U.S. 19 and Hudson Avenue, troopers said.

Heather Burlingame, 36, of Hudson, was driving a 2013 Nissan Juke south on U.S. 19. She had the green light to cross the intersection with Hudson Avenue, troopers said.

Then Joshua Allen Petitt, of Hudson, pedaled his bike west across the road and entered the southbound lanes of U.S. 19, troopers said.

The bicyclist crossed into the path of the Nissan and was struck, troopers said. Petit was taken to a hospital but later died of his injuries there. Troopers are trying to determine if alcohol played a role in the bicyclist’s actions. It doesn’t appear that any charges will be field in this case.
