Dade City man killed in train crash

DADE CITY — A freight train hit and killed a man crossing the tracks at the Tuskegee Avenue railroad crossing Sunday, police said.

A 41-year-old man who lives in Dade City was walking westbound toward the 98 Bypass about 1:00 p.m. when he was struck by a CSX train traveling southbound, witnesses told the Dade City Police Department. The railroad crossing gate and lights appeared to be working properly at the time of the accident, police said.

The agency is withholding the victim’s name until they can identify him and notify his family.
