WESLEY CHAPEL — A 37-year-old man was killed Tuesday evening after he lost control of his car on Boyette Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. on Boyette Road south of Sheron Drive. Troopers said the Wesley Chapel man was driving north when he lost control while traveling on a wet roadway.

The car veered off the road, rotated and then struck an iron fence, a tree and a wooden fence.

He died at the scene. He was wearing his seat belt, troopers said.

The Highway Patrol did not release his name because of the agency’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018. The law is meant to protect crime victims, but it deprives the public of information that had long been made available in Florida under the state’s public records law.
