NEW PORT RICHEY — One person is dead, one is in custody and another is the subject of a search following a fatal shooting early Sunday in New Port Richey, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office said.

Few details were available Sunday morning as the agency launched its homicide investigation into the shooting death, which occurred on Irene Loop, off Trouble Creek Road in the Melodie Hills area.

In a 5:30 a.m. post to its Facebook page, the Sheriff’s Office announced that one person was in custody and an active search was underway for a second person who fled the scene and may be injured.

“There does not appear to be a threat to the public, as this does not appear to be a random act,” the agency’s post said.
