A 40-year-old man died Wednesday night after being hit by a car while walking across the road in Pasco, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

At about 8 p.m., a 50-year-old Zephyrhills man was driving east on State Road 56 east of Ancient Oaks Boulevard when his car hit the man as he was crossing the highway, the Highway Patrol said.

The pedestrian, who was from Wesley Chapel, died at the scene of the crash.

The Highway Patrol did not release the name of either men involved because of their interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018 that’s meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under Florida’s public records law.
