HUDSON — Two men and a woman died Tuesday night in a single-car crash when the speeding driver lost control and struck a guardrail, causing the car to overturn several times and burst into flames, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. on Denton Avenue west of Matis Road in Hudson.
The driver, a 26-year-old Hudson man, was speeding west when the crash occurred. The car overturned several times in an open field, the Highway Patrol said.
Both passengers, a 19-year-old Port Richey man and an 18-year-old Hudson woman, were ejected. They were not wearing seatbelts.
The driver, was who was wearing a seatbelt, was trapped inside the car as it caught fire.
The Highway Patrol did not release the names of the three victims because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
