A 27-year-old Zephyrhills woman was killed in a crash with a dump truck early Thursday morning, Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported.
The crash occurred at 6:51 a.m. on State Road 56 just east of Oakwood Preserve Drive. The woman was driving a car west on State Road 56 when she lost control, went into the median and then onto the eastbound lanes, where the car hit a dump truck, according to the highway patrol.
The woman died at the scene, troopers said.
The driver of the dump truck, a 49-year-old Tampa man, suffered minor injuries. The truck went into a ditch after the collision, troopers said.
The highway patrol did not release the names of the people involved due to the department’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to Florida’s constitution that’s meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under the state’s public records laws.
