A 39-year-old Wesley Chapel man has died from injuries he suffered in a crash in Polk County earlier this week, The Florida Highway Patrol reported Friday.

The crash occurred at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 4 as the westbound driver was approaching the entrance ramp to a rest stop. The car went off the road, hit a roadside marker, went down an embankment and into a ditch, became airborne, hit a tree and overturned, troopers reported.

Troopers said the driver was taken to the hospital, where he died on Wednesday, troopers said.

The highway patrol did not release the driver’s name due to the department’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to Florida’s constitution that’s meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under the state’s public records laws.
