Odessa man, 52, dies in collision on State Road 54

ODESSA — A collision Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a 52-year-old man, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place about 10:30 a.m. on State Road 54 and Black Lake Road, west of the Suncoast Parkway.

The 52-year-old driver, an Odessa man, was driving a van west on S.R. 54. Heading in the opposite direction was an SUV driven by as 17-year-old Odessa teen.

The van driver attempted to turn south, going across the eastbound lanes of S.R. 54. The van entered the SUV’s path, troopers said, and the front of the SUV crashed into the passenger side of the van.

The 52-year-old man suffered fatal injuries and died at the crash scene, according to the Highway Patrol. The 17-year-old driver suffered serious injuries. Both were wearing their seat belts, troopers said.

The Highway Patrol said it was attempting to locate the family of the 52-year-old man to inform them of his death. No other details about the crash were released.
