NEW PORT RICHEY — A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night when a pickup truck turned into his path, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident took place about 6:53 p.m. at Little Road and Teak Street, near Bayonet Point.
The motorcyclist was headed north in the outside lane of Little Road. A 39-year-old man driving a pickup truck was headed south on Little Road, in the left turn lane approaching Teak Street.
The pickup driver then turned left and entered the path of the motorcyclist, who crashed into the truck, troopers said.
The motorcyclist was thrown onto the roadway and died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet. The pickup driver, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. The Highway Patrol did not release any other details about the crash.
Both men are from New Port Richey. The Highway Patrol did not release the names of those involved in the crash under its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a state constitutional amendment designed to protect victims of crimes. The agency now omits the names of anyone involved in a crash, regardless of whether a crime was committed.
