DADE CITY — Deputies were on scene at Centennial Middle School Thursday afternoon to respond to an “unsubstantiated threat,” according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office tweet Thursday afternoon that the threat was a hoax. They did not release any details about the nature of the threat.

The campus on Centennial Road near U.S. 301 had an increased law enforcement presence throughout afternoon dismissal as a precaution, the Sheriff’s Office tweeted.

The Sheriff’s Office said its presence at the school was “out of an abundance of caution.” Officially, the school was considered a “controlled campus” until the end of the school day.

Details about the threat were not released by deputies. It is unclear whether Centennial Elementary, which sat downhill from the middle school, was impacted by the threat.
