A 29-year-old New Port Richey man was killed in Pasco County Wednesday evening after his sport-utility vehicle was struck by a car that crossed into his lane and struck him head on, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was driving the SUV east on State Road 54 east of Rowan Road at about 7:30 p.m. when a a 38-year-old Port Richey woman heading the opposite direction lost control of her car. Troopers say her car crossed a median and struck the SUV, causing it to flip.

The man died at the scene, according to the Highway Patrol. A 25-year-old woman in the passenger seat had minor injuries, while the driver of the car and her passenger, a 27-year-old Lutz woman, were not injured.

The Highway Patrol did not release the names of those involved in the crash because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
