HUDSON — A 43-year-old St. Petersburg man was killed Monday night while trying to cross U.S. 19 at the highway’s intersection with Sea Ranch Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was walking across the highway around 11:45 p.m. when he was hit by a car traveling south, driven by a 26-year-old Spring Hill man.

The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver was not injured.

The pedestrian was walking in a crosswalk but the Highway Patrol was still investigating who is at fault.

“Troopers continue to investigate the crash to determine the initial cause of the crash at the signalized intersection,” the agency said in a news release.

The Highway Patrol did not release the name of the pedestrian because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, an amendment to the state Constitution.
