A man riding a moped was killed in a traffic crash in Pasco County on Tuesday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. at Colony and Fairwinds roads.

Troopers said a 40-year-old man from Holiday was driving a moped east on Lake Karl Drive approaching Colony Road when he stopped at a stop sign at the intersection, then made a left turn.

A 55-year-old man from Spring Hill was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck west on Fairwinds Road approaching Colony Road at the time. The pickup driver “failed to stop, entered the intersection and collided with the Yamaha QT50 motorized bike,” the Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The man on the moped was taken to a hospital, where he later died, troopers said.

No other details, including the names of the people involved, were released by the Highway Patrol.
