Clothes to Kids seeks Back to School Items

Clothes To Kids, a nonprofit organization, serves more than 100 children per day, and provides more than 12,000 school wardrobes free of charge, to low-income and in-crisis Pinellas and Hillsborough county school children from elementary school through 12th grade. With school back in session, the organization is asking for help from the community to fill its underwear, clothing and shoe racks with gently used or new clothing. This includes pants and shorts sizes 6-16 as well as uniforms for , youth jackets and girls underwear sizes 6-9. School shoes are also a huge need. Those wishing to donate can drop off items from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at any of its three stores: 5011-H West Hillsborough Ave. in Tampa, 1059 N Hercules Ave. in Clearwater, and 2168 34th St. S in St, Petersburg. Upcoming city of St. Petersburg budget public hearings

Community members are invited to attend upcoming public hearings for next year’s city budget. The first hearing is on Thursday where the City Council will adopt the tentative Fiscal Year 2020 budget. The second is on Sept. 19 where the council considers adoption of the final budget and property tax rate. Both hearings begin at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Sunshine Center, 330 Fifth St. N. Clearwater Historical Museum welcomes donors for new program

The newly opened Clearwater Historical Society Museum and Cultural Center’s fundraising campaign for “Museum Pioneer” donors is on track to meet its first monthly goal of 25 Pioneer pledges. However, the organization is still seeking more donors to reach its goal of 150 Pioneer pledges by December. The museum’s five-year plan requires $6.9 million overall for restoration construction, and money designated for museum operating expenses. All pledges must be submitted before Dec. 31 to qualify for the special designation. Volunteers invited to participate in service projects in St. Pete

CareFest, a festival of service projects that runs from Sept. 21 to Oct. 6, welcomes individual volunteers and organizations to adopt projects to help those in need in St. Petersburg. The event starts with the kickoff celebration on Sept. 28 at Lake Vista Park, 1401 62nd Ave. S, where volunteers will enjoy a light breakfast at 8 a.m., then take off for their projects and return for a celebration at 11:30 a.m.

Pinellas Genealogy Society offering free genealogy/family history classes

The Pinellas Genealogy Society is holding free genealogy and family history classes at the Largo Public Library, 120 Central Park Drive, this September. Topics will include Brick Walls in Genealogy, Using Ancestry.com, Franco American Discussion Group, and more. Classes will run from 60 to 90 minutes, depending on content and questions.
